Wear Solutions & Expertise & Customer-Tailored Service:

Bortome specializes in manufacturing cemented tungsten carbide mill rolls designed for the harsh operating conditions of hot rolling mills producing wire rod and rebar.

We offer two delivery options to match your production needs:
– Semi-finished rolls with precision-ground inner diameter and thickness
– Fully finished rolls manufactured directly to your drawings

Our carbide rolls are available up to Ø600 mm outer diameter with a maximum thickness of 300 mm.

Application in Wire Rod Rolling:

Wire rod is formed by hot rolling metal billets between two rolls to achieve the required shape and dimensional accuracy.
During operation, the rolls are exposed to extreme combined stresses:
– High thermo-mechanical fatigue
– Severe abrasive and adhesive wear
– Radial compression and impact during billet biting
– Thermal shock and thermal fatigue
– Hoop stresses from mounting and fitting

The wire rod rolling process includes four key stages:
Roughing Stand → Intermediate Stand → Block Mill → Finishing Stand

Material Properties & Advantages:

The performance of tungsten carbide is determined by critical structural factors:
– Binder type and content
– WC grain size
– Grain morphology and uniform distribution

Bortome tungsten carbide rolls are the premium recommended material for Intermediate Stands, Block Mills, and Finishing Stands, providing exceptional wear resistance, thermal stability, and service life under demanding hot rolling conditions.
