FAQ for tungsten carbide preforms:
Q1: What is a tungsten carbide preform? What is near-net-shape?
A: Tungsten carbide preform is semi-finished carbide blank pre-machined with complex profiles (steps, tapers, coolant holes, special contours) at pressed compact stage before sintering. Near-net-shape means the sintered part is extremely close to final dimension, drastically reducing post-sinter grinding & wire EDM cost.
Q2: What grades of tungsten carbide preforms do you offer?
A: As a professional manufacturer of tungsten carbide preforms, we provide a full range of cemented carbide grades, including BU06, BU09, YG10X, BT15, BT20, BT25UF, YG6, YG8, YG10, YG13, YG15, YG20, YN5, YN6, YN8, YN10, YN14, YN15 and YN20, ultrafine and submicron grain carbides, as well as equivalent ISO-grade WC-Co and corrosion-resistant WC-Ni alloys. All grades can be customized according to customers’ actual working conditions for applications including cutting, stamping, mining and wear-resistant components.
Q3: Can you make non-cobalt tungsten carbide preforms?
A: Yes. We produce WC-Ni, WC-Ni-Cr preforms for corrosive working environment where cobalt leaching is forbidden.
Q4: Can you make tungsten carbide preforms with internal coolant holes?
A: Yes. We pre-drill straight /spiral coolant holes on green preforms, holes keep intact after sintering without secondary drilling, greatly save processing cost for drill & end mill manufacturers.
Q5: What complex shapes can your carbide preforms support?
A: Step shafts, T-shape blanks, special nozzles, gear preforms, micro drill blanks, eccentric parts, grooved preforms, custom irregular profiles according to customer’s drawings.
Q6: What is the standard dimensional tolerance of sintered carbide preforms?
A: Standard tolerance: ±0.1mm for general preforms. Tighter tolerance ±0.03~±0.05mm is available for precision series with extra HIP treatment. All preforms allow small finish grinding to reach final drawing tolerance.
Q7: What is your lead time?
A: In-stock items can be shipped within 2–3 days. New non-standard customized orders take 7–15 working days, subject to processing complexity.
Q8: What is your MOQ for custom carbide preforms?
A: Small trial order MOQ: 1 piece for new development.
